Election Process

Members who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors submit an application (see above), that is then reviewed by the election committee. The committee then makes a recommendation for a slate of nominees that is presented to the Board, then to the entire Basalt Chamber membership.

If there are no petitions (see below), the existing Board will officially declare the slate of nominees elected and officially on board members in January 2024. 

Right To Petition

Members in good standing have the right to petition for a spot on the Board of Directors. Petitions require signatures of 10% of the membership (40 individual businesses). If no petition is filed within the designated period of 10 days, the nominations shall be closed and the nominated slate of candidates shall be declared elected by the Board of Directors at either the next regularly scheduled meeting, or by electronic vote.

Committees

Events and Education

The Events and Education Committee’s purpose is to produce and promote sustainable events for the Chamber for the benefit of its members and the Basalt community. The committee also enhances existing events to bring additional vitality to the area and customers to member businesses.

Economic Development (currently the Executive Committee)

The Economic Development Committee’s purpose is to promote a vibrant, diverse and sustainable economy by retaining, growing, and recruiting businesses in the Roaring Fork Valley. The committee identifies barriers and challenges faced by businesses, and works towards solutions for greater success, through partnerships with the community, government (local/regional/state) and other organizations, advocating on the behalf of local businesses.

Membership

The Membership Committee’s purpose is to recruit and retain members, build relationships, and derive new and unique benefits to offer members with the goal of increasing the membership base. The Ambassadors are a volunteer extension of the Chamber, welcoming new members and assisting with Chamber events.

Marketing and Tourism

The Marketing & Tourism Committee’s purpose is to assist with marketing the Chamber, Basalt, and the surrounding area to our target markets as defined in the strategic plan. This includes advertising, public relations, the Chamber’s website, digital and social media and print materials.

Sign Committee

The Sign Committee’s purpose is to define opportunities for better wayfinding and signage in and around Basalt, and to develop visually engaging solutions. The committee collaborates with key constituents, the town and other necessary partners to execute the final sign designs.
