This trail is fairly steep for the first half mile, then levels off to a gradual climb for a 14-mile out-and-back hike, with a total elevation gain of 2,447 feet.
Difficulty: Moderate
From Basalt to the Trailhead: Travel ten miles up the Fryingpan River Road. Take a right at the fishing access road below the Ruedi Dam, cross the river and follow the road to the left until it dead ends at the trailhead.
